Damp Proofing For Your Properties
One of the major problems encountered by folks living close to the seas or in areas that are prone to some kind of flooding is that of damp. This is where water finds its way into your building often causing damage to the walls, floor timber and other bits of your place. If this problem goes unchecked, the damp may get to your fixtures and this may lead the way on to extraordinarily grave damages in your house. It involves the insertion of a wet evidence membrane customarily made of a copper sheet, bituminous felt or thick polythene into the current wall which acts by stopping the capillary action of water up the wall. Before the DPC is installed, it is vital that a professional work on where it should be installed so it can be productive. For example, where wooden floors have been used the DPC should be installed at least 1.5cm below the floor level but above the outside ground level.
On the other hand, where solid flooring materials have been used and are damp proofed, you would need to install the damp evidence membrane into the walls. This can be quite a difficult process since all of the electric wiring, plumbing, skirting boards and other fixtures need to be removed from either side of the wall before the damp proofing can be done. Once this is done, a tungsten carbide tipped chainsaw is used to cut into the wall where the DPC will be inserted to stop the rising of water.
