Here’s a look ahead to some of the top area high school basketball games
coming up this weekend: Friday Ben Davis (3-1) at Warren Central (2-2): A
pretty big early season MIC game. Ben Davis notched a solid 49-46 win over
Terre Haute North last week and has started strong under coach Mark James.
This will be a battle up front as Warren Central’s Devin Davis and Brent
Calhoun go up against Brennan Gillis and Trevor Thompson, among others for the
Giants. Fishers (2-3) at Carmel (4-1): Fishers is coming off back-to-back
losses to Warren Central and Franklin Central, while Carmel defeated then-No.
1 North Central on Friday. Michael Volovic has played well early for Carmel,
averaging 14.2 points and 5.0 assists. Guerin Catholic (3-1) at Lawrence North
(3-2): Guerin Catholic’s only loss is by three points to Broad Ripple.
Lawrence North lost 45-31 to Brebeuf last week, the second time already this
season it has scored in the 30s. Roncalli (4-0) at Brebeuf Jesuit (3-1): The
coaches, Michael Wantz of Roncalli and Scott McClelland of Brebeuf, are good
friends and probably glad to be out of one another’s sectional as Roncalli has
