How To Handle A Lost Or Stolen Passport

Report The Lost Or Stolen Passport
The misfortune may be reported over the telephone. Toll free numbers are made available to callers and operators are on call for fourteen hours every day,except when it is a Federal holiday. If the telephone cannot be used to make contact, a special form may be submitted after completion. This form must be submitted in person to an acceptance facility or passport agency.
It Will Be Invalidated
It is important to remember that passports that are no longer in the possession of the rightful owners and for which a report has been made are invalidated. This means that they cannot be used for further travel. The information supplied on the report form is normally entered into the Consular system.
Find The Correct Office
If a passport is found after it was reported as missing, they ought to be given in at the facility that collects report forms. While submitting the passports,the owners have the option of asking for them again. To comply, the office cancels the passports and returns them. If a request is not received for their return, the passports are thrown away. This occurs since missing passports may not be re-validated. They are in need of replacement.
