A 28-Year-Old Man Was Remanded In Custody Today Charged With The Burglary Of A Cork Pensioner’s Nest Egg While Posing As A Garda.
A 28-year-old man was remanded in custody today charged with the theft of a Cork pensioner’s savings while posing as a Garda.
Kenneth Lyons, with an address at Willison Meadows, Tower, Cajolery, Corp Cork was charged with the theft of 28,000 in cash from the 70-year-old pensioner’s home at Wolfe Tone Street in Cork last Sunday, June 26th.
The pensioner was preparing to travel to Medjugorje on pilgrimage when the purported robbery happened. At Cork District Court today, Mr Lyons faced 2 charges, number one in relation to the alleged theft of the total of 28,000 from the man’s home and a second of impersonating an affiliate of An Garda Sochna.
The accused, who wore a gray striped t-shirt and blue jeans in court today, was caught on yesterday and brought to Gurranabraher Garda station for interrogating. Giving proof of arrest, charge and caution Detective Aidan Forrest announced Mr Lyons made no answer to the charges put to him following his arrest, writes tagza.com.
Thousands of pilgrims took part in this year’s jubilee Peace Walk that occurred on the banquet of St. John the Baptist, June 24th that was just one day prior to the 30th Anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions. The Peace Walk started at six a.m. From the Monastery of St. Anthony in Humac and climaxed in front of the church of St. James in Medjugorje.
The Guardian Priest of Humac Monastery, Fr. Velimir Mandi263 [*SCO], sanctified and greeted all pilgrims at the beginning of the Peace Walk. They represented the following nations : Austria, Germany, US, Canada, Eire, Britain, Brazil, Columbia, Mexico, China, Hungary, Slovakia, France, Romania, Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Korea, Ukraine, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Prayers were made and hymns in the privilege of the Queen of Peace were sung all of the time in the Peace Walk, that arrived in front of the church around 10.15 a.m. Fr. Miljenko Steko met all the pilgrims outside the church of St. James and conducted Devotion of the Blessed Sacrament as well as Benediction. The first initiators of this famous Peace Walk were there together with their leader Hubert Liebherr, converted German businessperson.
